TCOASAS

The Cartoon Personality Complex

Yeah, you know you've done it! Everyone has at one point or another compared themselves to a cartoon character. You may have been the typical Superman or maybe Batman. Hey, I have a friend who told me she was a Ninja Turtle the other day!

Ok, ok. I can already see the look on your face! You have one of two expressions. About right now you are either saying, "Yeah, so?" or "I've never done that this article is not for me." Either way this article is for you!

On to business! First off I would like to discuss some benefits and advantages to expressing yourself as a Superhero or your favorite character. I would also like to look at some reasons why you should be gender independent when choosing a character to describe yourself, and I will wrap it up with some tips on how to choose a character to describe yourself.

Your first thought on the matter maybe, "I don't even care about characters of superheroes!" but let me give you some reasons why you should care. In order to build my case let me define a character and its relevance to you.

Here are some definitions from www.dictionary.com: A person portrayed in an artistic piece, such as a drama or novel. Public estimation of someone; reputation: personal attacks that damaged her character. Status or role; capacity: in his character as the father.

I think it is important to note that a character is a public estimation of someone. A superhero or character in a book is publicly known for their traits or abilities. Likewise any given person is known for some traits or abilities that they posses. Ok, don't go to sleep on me yet!

One advantage in choosing a character that best fits your personality or the personality that you would like yourself to have is, it gives you a glimpse of your self from a removed viewpoint. If you see yourself as Capitan Hook you are probably a greedy pirate who wants nothing more than good old fashioned revenge. On the other hand if you see yourself as, say, Wendy you are probably a responsible person who likes to have fun and can only say no to adventure when its gone too far.

I also see the aspect of public image as a benefit. This gives you the wonderful gift of influence. If you know who you are you will be able to help other find out who they are. The sad thing is, most people don't realize when the have the power of influence. Or maybe they know they do and arn't afraid to use it. Either way they abuse the privilege and therefore give the rest of us a bad name.

Moving right along, when I say, "gender independent" I don't mean find a character that is neither male nor female. No, I mean don't let gender stop you from picking a character to describe yourself. Remember when you identify yourself with a character it is a public image it shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks. This is your power of influence. Please do not mistake this concept as support for any kind of gay movement. I'm simply saying that one should choose a character that suits him or her self best.

To sum this article up I have a few suggestions when you decide to associate yourself with a character. Remember that your life is always a public image. To someone somewhere you are an influence. Keep in mind that the character you most closely associate yourself with is the one you are most like. On the flip side the one who is your hero is the one you will become. In closing I think this point is obvious, be yourself!
