Have you ever considered living on the moon? Have you ever thought about the potential of solar power? Have you ever dreamed of taking an after noon trip to space? The day is fast approaching when we will utilize the sun to power flight between earth and our moon.
On October 13, 2003 in a hanger at the Marshall Space Flight Center, in Huntsville, Alabama, NASA was able to keep a three hundred gram plane with a one and a half meter wingspan in the air by lazer power. The lazer beam was projected at the specially designed photovoltaic cells. As long as the beam was uninterrupted the plane kept flying.
Later that week October 15, 2003, thirty four years, two months, and twenty five days after Neil Armstrong stepped on the moon, China reported that their first Astronaut was in the space. Roomers have circulated that China plans to put a space station on the moon by 2005.
After the loss of Columbia on February 1, 2003, NASA has halted all shuttle missions. Efforts have been made by the X Prize foundation to keep the space race alive. However, the whole American space program has been slowed by the loss of Columbia. We need to get back into the race. Teams from around the world are getting closer and closer to solving a new method of flight. Being careful not to let such an opportunity slide, we should work with our allies and possibly pursue more new friendships through the space race. Working together, we can build unity with our neighboring countries and their allies.
The X Prize is calling for a space craft that can fly to one hundred kilometers, return safely to earth, and repeat the launch within two weeks. What America needs is a lazer powered space craft that can take off like a plane, fly to three hundred fifty kilometers, return safely to earth, and be able to make the same trip within forty-eighth hours.
With this kind of technology we would be able to fly any where in the world within twelve hours. We could conduct more medical research, and maybe even perfect new procedures only possible in space. We could then make trips to the moon and eventually to mars. Wouldn't it be nice to mail a package to Germany some morning and it be delivered by six that evening? Also without such a space craft America and the rest of the world could be vulnerable to nations with such vehicles.
America needs your support. Your representatives need to know you want to see your state help your country develop space. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration also needs your help. Your money will be used to improve America. If you are willing to support your country's peace keeping efforts, you can start today by mailing a letter to your state representative.
